Edison (Chia-Shen) Chen is a highly skilled software engineer with expertise in large-scale distributed systems and machine learning infrastructure. He is currently employed at Facebook as a Software Engineer. Prior to this, he worked at Uber as a Senior Software Engineer and Tech Lead, where he contributed significantly to the development of UberEats and Uber Core Services. At UberEats, Edison worked on ML systems and helped grow UberEats Marketplace to 10X scale. He was also a Tech Lead in the Promotion Optimization team, where he built automated ML workflows to optimize promotion spend and predict user ranking for accurate targeting. Additionally, he was a Tech Lead in the Time Prediction team, where he built a real-time prediction service that provides second-level time info to end-users. At Uber Core Services, Edison built Uber’s in-house distributed data storage, designed API and data model for timely access and update, and migrated Uber’s old architecture to microservices. He also developed a performant full-text search engine for core user data retrieval using Elasticsearch. Edison holds a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Information Systems Management from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Applied Mechanics from National Taiwan University.
